Kenya:
Nairobi National Park
Nairobi National Park is situated a 30-minute drive only from the city centre of Nairobi in Kenya. It was Kenya's first national park, established in the 1940's. Today the park is fenced on three sides, but the animals can enter and leave the park by crossing a river bordering the fourth side. There is a network of good bush roads in the park, as well as picnic sites and observation points where visitors may leave their vehicles for a walk.

This may sound a little bit like a zoo, but Nairobi National Park covers 120 km2/46 sq mi and is inhabited by wild animals of many kinds. Few Kenyan parks are in fact as rich in mammal species. Anything from antelopes to lions may be seen.

Map of Africa Namibia Botswana South Africa Zambia Mozambique Malawi Rwanda Tanzania Kenya Uganda
A number of rhinos have been moved to the park from other parts of the country, but Nairobi National Park still can't claim to be a Big Five park, as there are no elephants.

The park isn't teeming with animals, and its quality as a game viewing area cannot be compared with Kenyan prime parks such as Masai Mara.

If you have half a day or a day to spend in Nairobi, you may enjoy a tour to the park. It has relatively few visitors during the weeks, while weekends can be crowded.
