Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge
Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge is a very good lodge, situated between Arusha and Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO/HTKJ) in northern Tanzania. It's some distance off the main road, in a quiet property next to Arusha National Park. The lodge has a private 9-hole golf course and views of the two highest mountains in the region, Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru.

The rooms are in the large main building, or in bungalows in the hotel garden. The main building rooms are light and spacious, and have great views, while the bungalow rooms (or rather suites) have a bedroom, lounge, a large bathroom with jacuzzi and their own veranda.

Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge has restaurant and bar, swimming pool, conference facilities for large groups and traditional hotel services such as laundry, room service etc. The general service level is very good.

Wildlife and safaris
Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge is set in a rural area, and some small mammals, especially monkeys, and birds can be seen.

Arusha National Park
The lodge is close to Arusha National Park, which is less than a 30-minute drive away. It's a suitable park for a day tour. It has a number of different biotopes, ranging from freshwater and soda lakes to grassland and mountain forest. There is also a high mountain, Mount Meru, 4,566 m/14,980 ft. Mainly herbivores, monkeys and birds are seen. Zebras, buffalos, waterbucks and giraffes are often spotted, and it's a park where you can be fairly sure to see bushbuck at close range. Elephants and red duikers are harder to spot. The park is known for its population of black-and-white colobus monkeys.

Because of the mix of habitats, there's a lot to see for birders. Some of the fine species we have seen are crowned eagle, lanner falcon, Levaillant's cuckoo, Hartlaub's turaco and narina trogon.

Tarangire and Lake Manyara
Both Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara National Park are about 2.5 hours' drive from the lodge, which means day tours are possible. The roads are tarmac almost all the way. Both these parks offer a varied wildlife, including good chances of seeing elephants.
