  Vuma Hills Tented Camp
Getting there
Mikumi is a four-hour drive on tarmac road from Dar es Salaam. The camp is a 15-minute drive on dirt road off the main road.
An airstrip is a 15–20-minute drive from the camp, but has no scheduled flights. To go there, or to fly from there, you need to charter a plane.
A private train, Safari Express, starts from Dar es Salaam, stops in Selous and ends outside Mikumi. It has a few scheduled departures every week. The traffic and the railway aren't fully reliable, though.

Vuma Hills Tented Camp
Mikumi National Park
Vuma Hills Tented Camp is a tourist class camp in Mikumi National Park in southern Tanzania. It's situated just south of the main road (leading from Dar es Salaam to Zambia) that cuts straight trough the park.

It's a fairly small tented camp, set in the forest on the hillside. The vegetation hides the tents from each other and adds a private and secluded atmosphere. You will probably not see much wildlife around the camp, due to the same vegetation, but the view to the north, overlooking Mikumi, is fine.

Tents on platforms
The tents are built on raised platforms, and are fairly spacious inside. Each tent has a bedroom part, and a bathroom part with WC, washbasin and shower. The veranda has a view far into the northern half of Mikumi.

Vuma Hills Tented Camp also has a restaurant and a bar, both opening towards the nature around, and a swimming pool. The atmosphere is relaxed and quiet.

The camp offers game drives in open safari vehicles in the park. This is of interest mainly to guests arriving by air or train; if you arrive by road, you will probably do game drives in your own vehicle.

All in all, it's an easily accessible camp in a central location in the park. The standard is comfortable, not luxurious. There are some stairs to walk to access the differents parts of the camp.

Safari seasons
The major parks of southern Tanzania – Mikumi, Selous and Ruaha – have the highest concentrations of wildlife during August to October, which is the end of a long dry season, when the animals congregate wherever there is water. Most visitors come during this time of year (the parks still have significantly fewer visitors than the major parks of northern Tanzania, such as Serengeti and Ngorongoro).

November to May brings rain, but there is a drier spell during January and February, when safaris are possible.

Wildlife around the camp
Vuma Hills is set in forest nature, which is rarely good for game viewing. Monkeys, birds and stray antelopes may be seen. To see the giraffes, elephants etc, you need to go game driving in the park.
