Ambitious restaurant
There are two restaurants. One of them, Mandhari Restaurant, is very ambitious and offers game, seafood, oriental and vegetarian dishes.

Nairobi Serena Hotel has an in-house doctor, wireless Internet and money exchange. There is a gift shop, hairdresser, business centre, conference facilities and two bars. One is a pool bar, while the other one is more elegant and has an Ethiopian theme design.

There is also a jacuzzi, steam bath and sauna, a gym and a large heated swimming pool. Riding, tennis and squash is available outside the hotel, as is golf at Royal Nairobi Golf Course.

Wildlife and safaris
The hotel is set in a major city, and you can't expect any wildlife around the hotel.

Nairobi National Park
Nairobi National Park is situated just outside Nairobi, a 30-minute drive from the hotel. The park is mainly covered by open savanna, but there is also a river bordering the park. For being so close to the city, it has a good wildlife and many species, from antelopes to leopards and lions. There is even a small number of rhinoceros. You can't see the Big Five, though, as there are no elephants in the park.

Half a day or a full day in Nairobi National Park is a good outing if you have some time to spend while staying in the city.

Lake Naivasha
Lake Naivasha is a 1.5-hour drive on tarmac from Nairobi, so it's a good destination for a day tour. It's not a prime wildlife area, although you may see antelopes, monkeys and hippos, but it's a beautiful place to spend a day and superb for birding.
